Time on site
20–45 minutes
Guarantee
12 months

What is included

  • Non-destructive entry wherever the lock allows it
  • Snapped-key extraction, and a new key cut from the broken half
  • One replacement key cut on the van if yours is lost
  • A replacement cylinder at cost if a lock has to be drilled
  • A lock and door check before we leave

Most lockouts are a slam-shut nightlatch, a key left on the inside, or a key that finally snapped after months of a stiff lock. All three usually open without a mark on the door.

What happens when you ring

A person answers, not a menu. We ask what kind of door it is, where you are and whether anyone vulnerable is inside or waiting with you. Then we give you one price and the arrival window, and text you the engineer’s first name and van registration when they set off.

How we get in

We pick, shim or bypass the lock wherever it allows. That covers most nightlatches and a good share of euro cylinders. Drilling is the last option, not the first, and if it comes to that we tell you why before we start and fit a new three-star cylinder at cost so you are not left with a door that will not lock.

After the door is open

We check the lock that caused the problem. A key that has to be jiggled usually means the door has dropped on its hinges and the bolt is fighting the frame; that is a hinge adjustment, done while we are there, not a new lock.

“Rang from the doorstep with a toddler asleep in the car. Price on the phone, van outside before the kettle would have boiled twice, door open without a mark on it.”

Questions about emergency lockout

Do I need to prove I live there?

Yes. We ask for ID with the address, a utility bill, or a neighbour or landlord who can vouch for you once the door is open. It protects you as much as us.

My key snapped in the lock. Should I try to get it out?

No. Leave the broken piece exactly where it is. Pliers and glue push it deeper and turn a ten-minute extraction into a lock change.

What if the key is still in the lock on the inside?

Say so when you ring. A key left in a cylinder on the inside stops most picking methods, so we usually go in through the letterbox or bypass the latch instead. It is still a non-destructive job in most cases.

How long will I be waiting outside?

In Coventry city we are usually with you in 25 to 40 minutes in the daytime, a little longer at night. We give you the window on the phone and text when the engineer sets off.
