A uPVC or composite door locks at three to five points along its edge, all driven by one gearbox behind the handle. When something goes wrong it is rarely the whole door.
The usual cause
Nine times out of ten the door has dropped or swollen a little, so the hooks and rollers no longer meet their keeps square. You compensate by lifting the handle harder, and eventually the gearbox gives up. Adjusting the hinges and keeps fixes the cause; replacing the gearbox fixes the symptom. We do both.

Questions about upvc door and mechanism repair
My door is stuck locked. Can you still open it?
Yes. A failed gearbox in the locked position is one of the most common calls we get. We open it without damaging the frame and fit the new gearbox on the same visit.
Do I need a new door?
Rarely. Most failing uPVC doors need a gearbox, a hinge adjustment or new keeps. We tell you if the door itself is past saving, and why.
Why is my handle so stiff to lift?
Usually the door has dropped or swollen, so the hooks are fighting the keeps. Adjusting the hinges and keeps fixes it; leave it and the gearbox eventually breaks.
